Q:
How often should I have my transmission checked? |
|
A:
Consult your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance
schedules, but practicing preventive maintenance can extend
your car’s and its transmission’s life. We recommend an
annual check of your vehicle’s transmission in order to
catch little problems before they become big problems. |

A:

Q:
What types of
services are available? |
A: At
AAMCO our focus is on transmissions and Complete Car Care, there are a
variety of services available. If you think you are having a
problem with your transmission, an AAMCO center will perform
an External Diagnostic Service. The External Diagnostic
Service includes checking the level and condition of the
transmission fluid, road testing your car, and a diagnosis
of the external transmission controls. If you have a
transmission problem, the EDS determines if the problem can
be corrected with an external repair or adjustment.
In some cases, the replacement or adjustment of a
transmission or drive-train related component(s) will
correct the problem. In other cases there could be an
electronic or computer malfunction. In still other cases the
transmission needs to be rebuilt. AAMCO offers service for
all of these transmission problems, for automatic or manual
transmissions, and for domestic or imported cars. The best
thing to do if you are having transmission problems is
contact your local AAMCO center to have an External
Diagnostic Service completed.

Q:
What if I decide I don’t want any work done after you
recommend it? |
|
A: If
AAMCO makes a recommendation for service based on any AAMCO
Diagnostic Service-- and you choose not to have the work
done on your vehicle-- you need only pay for the services or
parts you have previously authorized, and take your car
home. But remember, the longer you drive your vehicle, the
worse the condition might become. |

Q:
How much can I expect to pay for a transmission repair? |
|
A: The
price to repair a transmission depends on several factors.
These include determining the cause of your transmission
problem, the condition and type of transmission in your car,
and the type of service that needs to be done. AAMCO offers
an External Diagnostic Service to identify how to fix your
problem and keep your costs to a minimum. The AAMCO External
Diagnostic Service includes checking the level and condition
of the transmission fluid, road testing your car, and a
diagnosis of the external transmission controls. This
service determines if there is a transmission problem, and
if the problem can be corrected with an external repair or
adjustment. Contact your local AAMCO center to have an
External Diagnostic Service completed. |
